Re: Select Fill Material and State Approved Manufactured Fill for Septic System Installation
The Eastern Highlands Health District and area septic installers continue to experience problems with the quality of “Select Fill Material” used for the installation of septic systems. In an effort to maintain compliance with the “Select Fill Material” criteria detailed in the Connecticut Public Health Code and to assist licensed installers with their responsibility to assure the quality of the “Select Fill Material” used in their projects, the EHHD is instituting the below detailed policy.
Effective immediately, the following documentation shall be provided to the Eastern Highlands Health District project sanitarian prior to the placement of fill material at a septic system project site:
- For “bank run sand” a sieve analysis from the source pit that is 30 days old or less.
- For state approved “manufactured fill” a sieve analysis from the source pile that is 60 days old or less.
In addition to the above and pursuant to the Connecticut Public Health Code, the Health District reserves the right to require an additional sieve analysis of the septic system fill material placed on site, if in the opinion of the sanitarian it appears upon visual inspection to be inconsistent with the source sieve analysis provided.
Please direct any questions regarding this policy to your local health district sanitarian.
