Cardiovascular Health
Through grant support from the Connecticut State Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the EHHD strives to promote and improve cardiovascular health through environmental and policy change. Two areas of focus this year include the Healthy Hearts Restaurant Certification Program and the CVH Promotion Awards to recognize local efforts to improve cardiovascular health.
Risk factors for cardiovascular disease

CVH Promotion Awards
The EHHD Cardiovascular Health Promotion Awards (download a printable flyer) were created to recognize exemplary programs airmed at improving the cardiovascular health of individuals in schools, workplaces, and commumnities in the district. We invite any group from one of these categories to review their policies, programs, and activities and consider entering the competition.
Healthy Hearts
This program is offered to all class 3 & 4 restaurants (including school cafeterias) in the 10-town District. Establishments are certified if they agree that they are currently participating in 5 or more, out of 26, heart healthy practices or if they agree to make changes to do so. Restaurants receive a certificate for display signed by the Health Director, stickers for use on menus and free promotion through the Health District’s media contacts and publications. Currently 58 restaurants and 7 schools are certified.
