Reduce your risk of food-borne illness.
Take steps to reduce the chance of illness from food. Wash hands with soap before starting & between each step in a recipe if handling different types of ingredients. Rinse produce before cutting or eating. Avoid cross-contamination: keep raw meat/fish away from ready-to-eat foods. Thoroughly cook meat/fish; & mind the 'danger zone' for holding foods.

Environmental Health
The health district’s environmental health program provides information and resources to our residents and business owners on the latest environmental issues including: Food service / Septic systems / Well & water quality / Building projects / Public bathing and swimming water quality / Cosmetology

Community Health & Wellness
In an effort to promote wellness in EHHD communities, the health district has made available various programs, initiatives, and resources that seek to improve access to health in as many of the dimensions of wellness as possible.

Emergency Preparedness
Eastern Highlands Health District is prepared and ready to respond to any public health emergency such as a natural disaster, an act of terrorism, or a disease outbreak. We want you to be prepared, and to know that our communities are prepared, too.
Know Your Numbers
Knowing and monitoring blood pressure has been found to help manage hypertension. The EHHD offers free screening events throughout the year, and classes about lifestyle choices that impact blood pressure; classes include a FREE home monitor and how to use it. And, EHHD member town libraries have home monitors to loan!
Protect Yourself
from Tick-Borne
Illness
Lyme disease is caused by bacteria and spread by deer ticks to humans. Learn how to safely remove ticks and submit them for testing, how to prevent tick bites and how to landscape around your home to reduce the risk of ticks at home.
Community Work in Action
EHHD works with partners to support programs and initiatives that promote the well-being of the community. Recently EHHD partnered with CT Mission of Mercy to bring a FREE dental clinic to EHHD. The clinic was manned almost exclusively by volunteers including the EHHD Medical Reserve Corps volunteers and could not have happened if not for the many EHHD community partners. Well over a 1000 people received free dental care! To see this amazing work in action click on the link.
